What is a Plein Air Event?
A Plein Air event invites artists to create artwork outdoors, painting or drawing directly from the landscape, architecture, and atmosphere around them. Rooted in centuries-old artistic tradition, plein air painting emphasizes capturing natural light, color, and mood in real time. Visitors have the unique opportunity to watch artwork come to life as artists interpret historic buildings, gardens, and scenery on site, offering an engaging and immersive cultural experience for all ages.
Hosting Plein Air Art Day at The Olde Stone House Historic Village provides a rare opportunity to experience art and history together in a meaningful way. Set among preserved 18th- and 19th-century structures, the village serves as both inspiration and classroom, highlighting Washington Township’s rich past while supporting contemporary artists. Guests are encouraged to explore the grounds, interact with artists, and connect with the site in a new way—making history visible, accessible, and alive through art.
